A fair appraisal and price estimate of gunsmith work is more than the gunsmith labor and any tools or machine hour cost. The estimate must also include consideration of the following:
Does the customer have a work ready firearm?
Does the gunsmith work involve some machining of aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, Inconel, titanium, or an atypical material?
What is the machine hour cost of the need machine tool(s)?
What are the consumable tool costs? High tech insert tooling is expensive.
How complex are any gunsmith related machining procedure(s)?
What skill level is required for the gunsmith?
How fast does the customer want the gunsmith work and any related machine procedure(s)?
RATES: 60.00 per gunsmith hour without any machine work.
100.00 – 300.00 per gunsmith hour with inclusive machine work.
Written appraisal and price estimate agreed on and signed by thecustomer before any work is done.
