MACHINE SHOP SERVICES

A fair appraisal and price estimate of machine shop work is more than the machinist labor and the machine hour cost. The estimate must also include consideration of the following:

Does the customer have work ready and clearly dimensioned drawings?

Is the work material aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, Inconel titanium, or an atypical material and how much does it cost?

What is the machine hour cost of the need machine tool(s)?

What is the cost of the electricity required for the machine(s) and lighting?

What is/are the hourly cost of the machine(s) proportional, occupied floor space, annual property taxes, insurance, and maintenance?

What are the consumable tool costs? High tech insert tooling is expensive.

How complex is/are the part(s) or machining procedure(s)?

How complex, difficult, numerous, is/are the pre-machining setup(s)?

What skill level is required for the machinist?

How fast does the customer want the part(s) or machining procedure(s)?

And finally, a fair market profit margin is added to the estimate.

In summary, all these factors must be considered.
